America is a diverse country, and the decisions of our country’s leaders affect Americans of all races, ethnicities, religions and more. Yet the pool of journalists covering politics — especially on the national level — lacks diversity. How has this lack of diversity affected coverage of political fights, policy debates and legislative decisions affecting minority communities? How can we develop, identify and train political journalists of color?
