Brent Jones is USA TODAY’s Standards & Ethics Editor. His newsroom public service spans more than 15 years as a voice, writer and editor, including leadership positions that have guided journalistic best practices, organizational strategy, customer viewpoints, staff training, recruitment and student programming across print, desktop and mobile platforms.
Brent’s work inside and outside of safeguarding newsroom standards is devoted in part to diversity issues, developing campus partnerships and mentoring young talent. Roles include leading a robust, year-round internship program at USA TODAY and serving on the board of visiting advisors for Morgan State University’s School of Global Journalism and Communication. In 2015, he was asked by the Robert C. Maynard Institute to serve on its “reimagine” review team, assigned to provide guidance on the future of the institute, known and respected for its diversity leadership training and development for journalists.
Professional memberships include the Online News Association, Investigators Reporters and Editors and the National Association of Black Journalists, where he served as a past vice president of the Washington, D.C., chapter.
